CervicalCheck Cancer Misdiagnosis
Cian O’Carroll Solicitors has long worked in the complex field of cancer misdiagnosis, particularly cases arising from screening for cervical and breast cancer.
Since representing Vicky Phelan in 2018, we have also stood with Emma Mhic Mhathúna, Ruth Morrissey and Patricia Carrick; women who bravely chose to share their stories so that others might benefit from the hard-won outcomes of their cases. Cian O’Carroll Solicitors has also had the privilege to represent many other women who chose to remain private and for each of these people and their families, we were able to achieve successful and very siginficant outcomes to support them and their families whether the consequence of their missed cancer diagnosis was fatal or otherwise.
Incredibly, new cases are still emerging. Even since the revelations of April 2018, cervical smears are being misread and we are acting for women who at this time are dying because of negligently misread smears in 2020 and 2022. Despite these recent and ongoing errors, the audit has still not been resumed and individual cases are not investigated by CervicalCheck except in those rare cases where the affected woman makes a formal request.
