Biography

Cian O’Carroll, a solicitor since 1996, specialises in litigation. Initially working in criminal defense, employment law, and personal injury, he developed a focus on injustices against the State. Notably, his advocacy for Brian Rossiter’s family led to a statutory inquiry, an apology, damages, and changes to regulations for young persons in Garda custody.

He is best known for medical negligence, particularly cancer misdiagnosis cases (breast, ovarian, cervical), and has supported courageous women like Olive Fahey, Emma Mhic Mhathúna, Vicky Phelan, and Ruth Morrissey in improving healthcare. In 2019, he received a Special Merit Award for his team’s work on CervicalCheck. Cian continues to advocate for clients through media and participates in the Vicky Phelan Campaign and Portrait Tour to promote health and accountability.

Biography

Paul, a solicitor since 2005, holds multiple degrees including an M.Sc. in Healthcare Ethics and Law. He is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and England and Wales. Specializing in medical negligence, he has successfully handled complex cases, including those involving birth brain injuries like cerebral palsy and autism related to birth trauma, general surgery, and cancer misdiagnosis. Outside of law, Paul enjoys travel, outdoor activities, and running.

Biography

Susie Higgins joined the firm in 2020, specializing in complex medical negligence cases for medical professionals, public, and private hospitals. An experienced litigator and advocate, she regularly appears in the High Court and is CEDR accredited. Admitted in Ireland (2005) and England & Wales (2010), Susie previously led a dispute resolution team in Dublin, handling contractual, financial, property, and professional negligence disputes. Her qualifications include a LLB (Hons) and diplomas in Employment Law, Commercial Litigation, Corporate Law and Governance, and Commercial Property from the Law Society of Ireland.

Biography

Admitted as a solicitor in 2010, Siobhán Ryan specialises in medical negligence, particularly cancer misdiagnosis and birth-related injuries. She has a strong track record of winning complex cases in the High Court and appellate courts, especially in cancer misdiagnosis (breast, cervical, ovarian, endometrial, and laryngeal) and urgent case management. Siobhán played a key role in the CervicalCheck controversy, representing Vicky Phelan and other notable cases like ‘M’ ‘K’ , , and Ruth & Paul Morrissey. Clients commend her kindness. Before joining Cian O’Carroll Solicitors, she worked as an in-house solicitor with a Professional Regulator in Dublin, focusing on Administrative Law and Professional Healthcare Regulatory Law, gaining experience in fitness to practice issues. She is also admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.

With a B.A. and LL.B. from University College Cork Aidan brings both academic insight and practical experience to his role, supporting clients through complex and sensitive legal matters with care and precision.

Biography

Alaina Hogan, a solicitor qualified in 2014, holds a Master of Laws (Criminal Justice) and a Bachelor of Civil Law. A member of The Law Society of Ireland, she was a finalist for Lawyer of the Year at the Irish Law Awards 2017 for her work on the seminal ‘defective medical device’ case of Gillian O’Sullivan v. DePuy International Limited. Her practice focuses on defective medical device litigation and medical negligence, particularly cancer misdiagnosis, including leading CervicalCheck cases and complex damages relating to loss of fertility. She also represents women with gynaecological injuries from negligent labor management. Outside of work, Alaina enjoys travel, reading, and GAA, supporting her native Galway.

Biography

Pádraic, a solicitor since 2015, specialises in High Court personal injury litigation and medical negligence law, having studied Law and Accounting at the University of Limerick. He’s a keen sportsman, representing Golden-Kilfeacle GAA in hurling and football, with interests in various sports, current affairs, and travel, including living in Australia. Pádraic is also involved in agriculture, holding FETAC Certificates, and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and Tipperary Solicitors’ Bar Association.

Biography

Catherine Feery, a 2012 Law graduate from Waterford Institute of Technology, immediately joined the practice and became a long-serving member of the legal team. She specialises in complex civil litigation, particularly medical negligence cases involving delayed cancer diagnosis (breast, ovarian, colorectal, and cervical cancer). Catherine also excels in urgent case management – progressing the most urgent of cases where there may only be months to bring a case from start to finish due to the tragically diminished life expectancy of a person.
