Case Study: October 2025
Cian O’Carroll solicitors represent a middle-aged man, who suffered devastating and permanent injuries following serious failures in his medical care at hospital.
He attended Tipperary University Hospital after experiencing sudden left-sided weakness and slurred speech. A CT scan of his brain was performed and reported as normal. Based on this incorrect result, he was diagnosed with a transient ischaemic attack (TIA), often described as a “mini-stroke”, and admitted for observation.
During the night and into the following morning, his condition deteriorated dramatically. A repeat CT scan later revealed evidence of an evolving stroke, and thrombolytic (“clot-busting”) treatment was undertaken. By that stage, however, it was too late to prevent extensive brain injury.
Expert medical opinion obtained on our client’s behalf has confirmed serious failures in his care, including:
- Misreporting of the initial CT scan, which in fact showed signs of an acute infarct; and
- Failure to recognise and act on clear signs of neurological deterioration overnight.
As a result of these failures, our client was deprived of timely intervention and suffered avoidable and life-changing injuries, leaving him permanently disabled.Proceedings are ongoing before the High Court, and we continue to act on his behalf to seek full and fair compensation for the harm and losses he has suffered.
