Case Study: January 2024
Cian O’Carroll Solicitors has settled a High Court case involving the misreporting of a cervical smear test for Oonagh McEvoy, who tragically died from metastatic cervical cancer in 2011.
Oonagh McEvoy, a nurse at the Mater Hospital, was given a negative result from her 2007 smear test. However, it was later discovered that the test had been misreported, and her cancer, which could have been treated earlier, was only identified in 2010. Despite treatment, Ms. McEvoy passed away on April 11, 2011.
Our firm played a crucial role in this case, representing Ms. McEvoy’s family and achieving a significant sum of damages. The Beaumont Hospital Board admitted a breach of duty and issued a public apology for the failure in care. This case underscores our commitment to securing justice and fair compensation for clients affected by medical negligence.
